Cellular Landscape
Watercolour on paper. x cm
In the 2002 exhibition, this painting was presented untitled and the audience was invited to interpret it on visual clues alone. Most gave cells or skin, or desert as the subject they felt most suited this painting. My absolute favourite subject given ...... "lemmings in a hurry to follow dumplings"!
The following text originally accompanied the painting.
Many artists refuse to explain their work, believing that any artwork should stand on its own merits and speak for itself. Some audiences are insulted by explanations, preferring instead to draw their own conclusions from their own relative viewpoint. To accommodate this point of view, I have withheld the title of this work. What do you see in this image?
The painting is based on the layer of fat cells underneath the skin.
